511,055. Respiratory appliances. CARDILE, G., and GARDIOL, E., (trading as I.A.C. SOC. PER L'INDUSTRIA ARTICOLI CAOUTCHOUC E PER MATERIALI PROTETTIVI ED ANTIGAS). Feb. 11, 1938, No. 4418. Convention date, Feb. 13, 1937. [Class 81 (ii)] In closed-circuit or closed-path respiratory apparatus wherein the carbon dioxide absorbent canister is enclosed in the breathing bag, the canister is formed by two coaxial perforated cylindrical walls 5, 4, arranged with their axes horizontal, the respired air passing radially through absorbent material enclosed between the walls. As shown the canister has a solid end wall 2 and removable cover 3 ; the wall 4 is lined with one or more fine gauzes and the wall 5 is of larger diameter at its centre than at its ends. A filling hole 6 in the wall 4 has a flange 7 co-operating with a washer 10 and nut 11 to clamp the edges of a corresponding hole in the breathing bag 8. The canister is filled through the hole 6 with soda-lime 21 and the hole closed by a screw-cap 12. The breathing hose 17 in the case of a valveless closed-path apparatus, or the exhaling hose in the case of a closed-circuit apparatus, is connected by a screw-ring 18 to a screw nipple extension 18<1> of the port 5, and an outer nipple 14<1> receives a flanged nut 14 securing the cover 3, washers. 19, 20, 15, being provided between the engaging parts. The abutting edges of the wall 4 and the cover 3 are flanged to clamp between them bead 13 on the breathing bag 8.
