Abstract
510,058. Dyes. GEIGY AKT.-GES.. J. R. Sept. 5, 1938, No. 25908. Convention date, Sept. 7, 1937. [Class 2 (iii)] Acid o-hydroxydisazo dyes, capable of being after-chromed, are made by diazotising pamino-m-hydroxyazo dyes of the type (R-the residue of an aromatic sulphonic or carboxylic acid or a substitution product thereof), and coupling with N-aryl derivatives of 1-amino-8-naphthol-4-sulphonic acid. Alternatively a m-amino-p-cresol arylsulphonic acid ester may be used as middle component and the disazo dye saponified. In an example, the monoazo dye made from diazotised sulphanilic acid and m-amino-p-cresol by the process of Specification 13903/09 is coupled with 1-phenylamino-8-hydroxynaphthalene-4-sulphonic acid in presence of sodium carbonate and pyridine ; the product dyes wool from an acid bath in blue shades, which become yellowish-green when after-chromed. The sulphanilic acid may be replaced by the other aromatic amino-sulphonic or carboxylic acids or their substitution products referred to in Specifications 13903/09 and 13904/09, [both in Class 1 (iii)]. Similar dyes are obtained when using 1-(41-tolyl) amino-8- hydroxynaphthalene-4-sulphonic acid as end component, or by using the m-amino-p-cresol arylsulphonic esters as middle components and eliminating the arylsulphonic residue in the finished disazo dyes.
