Abstract

255,086. Durand & Huguenin Akt.- Ges. July 13, 1925, [Convention date] Disazo dyes are made by diazotizing p-phenylenediamine sulphonic acid in two stages, and coupling after each stage with an aryl-o-oxycarboxylic acid. For the first diazotization, either a monoacyl derivative or a p-nitraniline sulphonic acid is employed, the acyl group being saponified, or the nitro group reduced, in the product before proceeding to the second diazotization. In examples (1) the monoazo dyestuff from sodium p-nitraniline sulphonate and salicyclic acid is reduced with sodium disulphide and the amino body thus produced is diazotized and coupled with salicylic acid, and (2) the monoacetyl derivative of p-phenylenediamine sulphonic acid is diazotized, coupled with m-cresotinic acid, saponified by boiling with caustic soda lye, rediazotized, and coupled with salicylic acid. The products dye chromed wool brownish-orange tints, and give reddish-orange tints of good fastness when chrome-printed on cotton.
