Abstract

509,249. Road-traffic signals on vehicles. BARTENS, C. E. Jan. 10, 1938, No. 714. [Class 118 (ii)] In a system in which red and green lamps a, b are arranged to be lighted to signal the driver's intention of making a turn, and yellow lamps c are lighted upon application of the brake, a switch e is employed with contacts f, h through which the circuits to the red and green lamps are completed, the central contact g being connected through the brake-actuated switch m to the yellow lights. If the brakes be applied when the switch arm is connected to contact f, then the green lamp b on the offside is not lighted, but the red and yellow lamps on both sides are lighted due to the switches p, p' reversing. The connection r may be opened so that when the green lamp on one side of the vehicle is extinguished due to the action of switch p or p<1>, it will be replaced by a yellow light, the red lamp remaining alight on the other side. Relays may be included in the connections to contacts f,. h to operate direction indicators of normal construction while a tell-tale o is provided.
