Abstract

508,807. Ventilators. ROE, L. B. Jan. 7, 1938, No. 476. [Class 137] Air is supplied to the upper deck of motor buses and like vehicles through a ventilator fixed to the wall of the lower deck and comprising a base plate a having outwardly projecting flanges a<2>, a<3>, the former provided with slots a<4> through which air passes when the vehicle is in motion. A hole a<5> formed in the plate a leads to a conduit b through which the air passes to downwardly directed inlets in the vehicle. A shallow metal strap c with splayed portions c<1> is disposed between the base plate a and a shallow cover d, and in contact with both, and directs the incoming air into the conduit b. The cover d is open at each end and has outwardly directed flanges d<2>, d<3>. which provide an inlet and outlet between themselves and the flanges a<2>, a<3>. In Fig. 7a, the outer flanges are dispensed with and the openings a4 are formed in the cover d which in this case is brought in to meet the back plate a at the ends. Fig. 8 shows an extractor ventilator comprising a shallow dished plate e, with outwardly projecting ribs e' and a spaced rib e<2>, an extraction opening e3 being formed in the back plate a. This extractor ventilator is in juxtaposition to a fresh air inlet ventilator d of the kind previously described, air entering by openings in a wall a2.
