Abstract
508,698. Combing-machines. NASMITH, J. W. Jan. 5, 1938, No. 268. [Class 120 (i)] In a rectilinear combing-machine a resilient member F, Fig. 2, is associated with the combing cylinder segment S and is depressed by the descent of the detaching roller D thereon and then rises so as to lift the tips. of the tuft from the leather segment L as the rotation of the combing cylinder releases the member F from the constraint of the roller D. The member F is constituted by a flap of leather secured at its forward end F<1> upon a block B, its rear end F<2> being free and having sufficient resilience to lift the fibre tips as shown in Fig. 3. Blades of steel B<1> may be provided to maintain the resilience of the flap F, or alternatively, the leather flap is secured as a cover to the block B which is pivoted at its forward end and supported on compression springs.
