Abstract
508,467. Converting. JENNINGS, H. W. K. (Allgemoine Elektricitõts-Ges.) Oct. 25, 1937, No. 29153. [Class 38 (ii)] In a polyphase arc converter of the kind in which the discharge takes the form of a spark flowing through an ionized gas, danger of a back ignition occurring is reduced by the provision for each of the discharge gaps V1, V2, of an oscillatory circuit comprising either a condenser C1 connected directly across the gap or a condenser C<1> between one electrode of the gap and an electrode of the gap next to be struck, so that an oscillation is superposed at each cycle upon the voltage across the gap to reduce the initial rate of rise of voltage across the gap. The oscillatory circuit is completed by the provision in series with each of the gaps of inductance L1. In a modification separate inductances are not provided but the leakage inductance of the transformer S 1 is used.
