Abstract

507,803. Door - operating appliances. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. June 8, 1938, No. 17063. Convention date, June 8, 1937. [Class 65 (i)] [Also in Group XXXVII] A door T is closed by a screw- and-nut device S, M driven by an electric motor through a coupling K, and a spring thrust bearing L is included in the transmission so that, if the door meets an obstruction, the shaft S can move back and operate a.switch to cut out or reverse the metor. The nut is guided in a channel U to prevent rotation; and acts on the door through a rod D and a spring device G. The electric circuit is closed by a press button 6 which. forms a circuit through a relay 4, top field winding 2 and armature 1 of the motor which turns the spindle S in door-closing direction. When the button is released the circuit is maintained by the contacts of relay 4. If the door meets an obstacle or has reached its closing position, longitudinal movement of S causes contacts 7, 8, and, 9, 10 to be bridged by a contact 3, short-circuiting 4 and forming a circuit through relay 5 and lower winding 2 of the motor, so that the motor reverses the rotation of S. When nut M reaches stop C, spindle S is moved to close contacts. 11, 12, short-circuiting 5, and stopping motor.
