Abstract

507,433. Yarns; cords. NEWTON, R. B, GRAYHILL, L. A., and GWALTNEY, E.C. Dec. 14,1937, No. 34601. [Class 120 (iii)] [Also in Group XXV] A cotton yarn or cord particularly for use in tyres and belting is made by saturating the yarn. with water or other non-cotton-destroying and non-coating liquid to soften the natural gums and waxes in the yarn and then twisting and stretching the yarn while in the saturated condition, the stretching being effected during or after the twisting ; the yarn may be compressed by drawing it through a nipping or other device. A cabled yarn or cord is made by twisting or cabling the saturated yarns while still in the saturated condition and stretching the cord while wet either during or after cabling ; the cord may also be compressed. The stretching is preferably effected to such an extent that the yarn is under tension just short of the breaking point. Specification 433,010, [Group XXV], is referred to.
