505,731. Diaphragms for electrolysis. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP INTERNATIONALE SUIKER EN ALCOHOL COMPAGNIE. July 12, 1938, No. 20607. Convention date, Dec. 27,1937. [Class 41] [Also in Groups III and XXIII] Porous ceramic diaphragms used in electrolytic cells, are cleaned by treating with a dilute solution of an alkali oxidizing agent. Aqueous solutions containing 1 to 3 per cent of sodium peroxide or hypochlorite are used. Caustic soda may be added. A final wash with dilute acid and then water may be effected.
