Abstract

505,727. Sockets. RIECKE, H. June 7, 1938, No. 16801. Convention date, June 7, 1937. [Class 83 (iii)] Rotary tools such as drills, reamers, &c. having a shank of non-circular cross-section for driving engagement in a socket of similar section, have the shank and socket of substantially triangular section formed by a closed cycloidal curve, as shown in Fig. 3. The curve may be machined and finished by a planet gear or other mechanism as described in Specification 453,119, and the shank may be tapered as shown in Fig. 2 or parallel, in which case other means are provided for taking the axial thrust of the tool and preventing disengagement. A transverse slot g in the socket provides for ejecting the tool by means of a drift &c.
