504,320. Vehicle brakes. SCHWEIZERISCHE LOKOMOTIV - UND MASCHINENFABRIK. March 7, 1938, No. 7059. Convention date, March 9, 1937. [Class 103 (i)] A brake, e more particularly for rack railways is operated by a lever h which is released by a tumbler k adapted to be released by a control lever l adapted to be released when struck by a centrifugally-actuated weight c, and the control lever is adjustably arranged so that it can be moved into or out of the range of movement of the weight. The brake e is adapted to be applied by a spring i when the lever h is released. The lever l is normally out of range of the weight c and is ineffective to apply the brake until moved within range by a lever m on which the lever l is mounted. The lover m is operated by a control such as a dead-mans pedal n<1>. The weight c is adapted to assume its outer position at a relatively low speed e.g. 2 m.p.h., and the tumbler k carries an extension k<3> adapted to be struck by a further centrifugal weight o when the vehicle speed attains a predetermined higher speed, e.g. 10 m.p.h. The brake is restored to operative position by a lever i<3>. The brake may be directly applied by an emergency lever r. In a modification, the levers k, l are mounted on the same pin. The lever m may be operated by opposed spring and solenoid or by the lever r. The spring i may be tensioned or replaced by a pneumatic piston. The levers l, k<3> may be formed as leaf springs.
