Abstract

503,857. Regenerators. HOWDEN & CO., Ltd., J., and ECKERSLEY C. E. H. Oct. 15, 1937, No. 28058. [Class 64 (i)] In a regenerative heat-exchanger for gaseous media comprising a rotor having sector shapo compartments containing heat exchange material, the compartments are provided with removable carriers for the heat exchange material whereby the whole or a portion of the heat exchange material may be removed with the carriers through an opening provided in the stationary casing surrounding the rotor. Fig. 1 shows a regenerator in which the lower part of the rotor is provided with removable carriers. The rotor is divided by radial partitions secured to the shaft 2 and shell 5, 44. The upper part of the rotor has partitions 8 and the heat exchange material 7a is supported on bars 27, 29. The lower part of the rotor is provided with removable carriers consisting of sector shape frames 36, 45, 40 secured to cover plates 41 and supported on bars 52. The cover plates are secured by bolts 42 to the rotor shell. Heat exchange material 7b is supported in the carriers. When it is desired to renew the heat exchange material in any one of the carriers the rotor is turned until the carrier containing the material to be renewed is opposite to an opening in the casing 1 such opening being normally closed by a door 60. The rotor is driven by a motor through gearing, and sealing strips are provided on the radial partitions and on the shaft 2 and shell 5, 44.
