[Class 93] The surface of aluminium or aluminium alloy' is provided with a coloured anodized layer'produced by the action of direct current in a bath not containing chromic acid, and is then treated with an acid reagent to produce a colour contrast. A pattern in an acid resist, preferably a fatty printing-ink, is produced on the coloured layer by a stencilling, painting, photographic, or printing process, the colour is destroyed at the unprotected parts by treatment with strong nitric acid, and the resist is finally removed. Specification 483,776 is referred to.
