Abstract

Sheet steel is made corrosion-resistant by electro-deposition using a dilute solution of chromic anhydride containing 10 to 50 g.p. litre and H2SO4 up to 5% of the chromic anhydride present. A current density of 10 to 15 A.S.Dm. is applied at 15 DEG to 50 DEG C for 5 to 10 secs. It is stated that a layer of metallic Cr is formed on which is formed a layer of chromium compound e.g. chromium hydroxide.
