Abstract
503,087. Television. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Sept. 30, 1937, No. 26460. Convention date, Sept. 30, 1936. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (iii)] A series of signals is separated from another series of a different range of amplitude by using the signals to deflect a cathode ray which produces an impulse each time its deflection exceeds a predetermined amplitude. Picture signals are interspersed with synchronizing signals of greater amplitude, as described in Specifications 407,409 and 448,065, and the synchronizing-signals deflect the ray on a plate B. The vertical and horizontal synchronizing signals may be separated by their different frequencies. As shown, the vertical signals are larger than the horizontal and deflect the ray on a further plate D, thus producing a separate train of signals. To overcome the effect of variation of the average level of the signals, the horizontal signals, when they exceed a predetermined amplitude, deflect the ray on an intermediate plate C, which supplies a bias to the deflecting plate 18 to increase the distance between the edge of the target plate B and the mean position of the cathode ray when the amplitude of the signals increases.
