Abstract

502,588. Electric incandescent lamps. VEREINIGTE GLUHLAMPEN UND ELEKTRIZITATS AKT.-GES. April 21, 1938, No. 11974. Convention date, April 21, 1937. [Class 39 (ii)] In order to prevent blackening, a lamp bulb of tubular shape, filled with gas at a pressure greater than two atmospheres, has one or more blackening-reducing bodies of tubular form fitted therein along the direction of flow of the gas convection currents so as to oppose as little resistance as possible to the convection currents, a free space being provided above the blackening-reducing body or bodies so that the downwardly directed gas current shall not counteract the ascending current. In the example a gauze of molybdenum wire is coiled into the form of a tube E of spiral cross-section and arranged with its lower end at the level of, or slightly above, the upper end of the filament B, In a modification the blackening-reducing body is in the form of a wire coil surrounding the current lead to one end of the filament, and is supported from the wall of the lamp bulb. Alternatively a tube of nickel or of quartz glass may be used. The lamp bulb A is preferably made of quartz glass and tilled with krypton at a pressure of 50 atmospheres. U.S.A.
