501,671. Polymerization products. CARPMAEL, A. (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges.) Sept. 23,1937, No. 25856. [Class 2 (iii)] Acids of the type of crotylidene cyanacetic acid and derivatives thereof containing only one crotylidene cyanacetic residue are polymerized in the presence of such derivatives as contain the residue more than once in the molecule, such as the glycol, propylene glycol, butylene glycol or diglycol diesters, glycerol or trimethylol propane triesters of crotylidene cyanacetic acid, or amides or salts of crotylidene cyanacetic acid derived from polyamines or polyvalent bases. Other substances influencing the polymerizate may also be present. The polymerization is effected in the presence of a base. In examples the butyl ester of crotylidene cyanacetic ester is polymerized in the presence of the butylene glycol, or the diglycol ester and the methyl ester in the presence of the glycol ester. Specifications 460,914 and 502,742 are referred to.
