Abstract

500,286. Resilient supports; railwayvehicle undercarriages. HARTER, L. Aug. 7, 1937, No 15698. [Classes 103 (vi) and 108 (iii)] A rubber support for engines, railway vehicles &c. comprises a circular or elliptical block of rubber having convex ends and a concave periphery, the ends being provided with cone-shaped depressions. The support, as applied to an engine unit Fig. 1, comprises two rubber members 5 with convex ends 3, 4 recessed at 6, 7 and supported in cups formed on an engine lug 2 and brackets attached to a fixed beam 8. In Fig. 6, a rubber block 11 is seated in cups formed on extensions of an axle box 18, corresponding cups being formed in brackets depending from the rail vehicle chassis 19. The concave periphery of the rubber member may be provided with a rib 11a adapted to contact with the side of the cup under lateral thrusts. The rubber member may be placed between the end of a spring shackle and the vehicle body or rigid arms 20, Fig. 7, from a railway vehicle axle may support the vehicle underframe 21 through rubber supports 11 mounted in cups 22 23 which are interconnected at 23b for relative movement.
