Abstract

An alloy steel, particularly adapted for the manufacture of corrosion-resistant hardened articles, and in which in the hardened condition substantially all the carbides are in the cubic phase, contains from 0,2 to 1,35 per cent carbon, 10 to 22 per cent chromium, 0,2 to 5 per cent each of molybdenum, cobalt, and copper, less than 0,2 per cent of nickel, and less than 0,05 per cent of phosphorus, the remainder being iron with the normal percentages of manganese, silicon, and sulphur. The molybdenum may be wholly or in part replaced by tungsten. The steel may also contain one or more of the following elements, in the proportion of 0,05 to 1,0 per cent of each and not more than 5 per cent in all; beryllium, boron, aluminium, titanium, vanadium, arsenic, p selenium, zirconium, niobium, tin, antimony, tantalum, and uranium.
