Abstract

497,497. Resilient engine mountings. POUNDER, C. C., BLAIR, A., and REBBECK. F. E. Aug. 9, 1937, No. 21850. [Class 122 (iii)] A reciprocating engine which has its bedplate or bed-frame resting upon resilient material and preferably positioned between lateral resilient abutments, is restrained from lateral movement of the upper part of the engine by providing resilient and compressible lateral buffers which are fixed to the structure surrounding the engine in such a position as to approach near to without normally making actual contact with the upper part of the engine. The blocks a of cast iron, steel, &c. are fitted between the engine base and the ship. The blocks are fitted in one or both faces with rubber, leather, or other non- metallic, compressible and resilient material, cast, hammered in, or otherwise secured. The holding-down bolts may pass through a tube of rubber, fibre, leather, &c. Under the bolt head or nut is arranged a disc of rubber, leather, fibre, &c. A block of steel, cast iron, &c. m is welded or otherwise attached to the ship, and a block of wood, &c. locked by wedges of steel, &c. is mounted at n. Buffers comprising structures faced with wood, rubber, leather, &c. may be fitted at the top q. The buffer may, alternatively, consist of a steel spring normally not in contact with the engine.
