Abstract

496,507. Vacuum cleaners. AIR-WAY ELECTRIC APPLIANCE CORPORATION. July 10, 1937, No. 19183. Convention date, July 10, 1936. [Class 8 (i)] The fan casing of a vacuum cleaner is rigidly attached to the handle and rotatable on the body of the cleaner, e.g. as described in Specification 495,426. To adjust the nozzle height, the rear wheels are mounted on a bracket 20 pivoted to the body at the part 21 and depressed by a spring-pressed member 23 which may be lifted by a wire 28 passing round the fan case within a saddle 17 to the interior of the handle where it is wound on a reel 29 actuated by a wheel on the same axis marked to indicate the position of adjustment. In a modification, Fig. 9, a finger 39 operated by the wire actuates cranked screw bolts 40 carried by the wheel bracket so that they may be caused to engage and disengage with any of a series of holes 44 in fixed brackets 22a. Alternatively, the wheel brackets may carry spring-pressed studs 50, Fig. 10, pressed into grooves 51 of fixed brackets.
