Abstract

496,401. Resilient engine-mountings. THIRY, L. June 3, 1937, Nos. 15400 and 15401. Convention dates, June 9, 1936 and Nov. 12, 1936. [Class 108 (iii)] A mounting for an engine, on its support, particularly for an aeroplane engine, comprising elastic connecting means distributed about the axis of the engine crank-shaft, each connecting means consisting of three or more parallel plates 101-103 clamped together and perpendicular to the axis of the crank-shaft and between which are disposed elastic cushions 104, 105 having an oblong form, the large axis of which is disposed at right-angles to a perpendicular to and the small axis at right-angles to the axis of the crank-shaft, the engine and the support each being connected to one set of alternate plates. The central plates 101 of the connecting means are mounted on bolts 119 mounted in plates 117, 118 fixed to the aeroplane fuselage. The outer plates 102, 103 are clamped together by a sleeve 106 which are mounted on bolts 123 fixed to the engine 114. The elastic cushions 104, 105 adhere to the plates and engage flanges 110 thereon. In a modification, the central plate is formed of two concave plates welded together and spaced at the centre by a washer, the mounting bolt passing through an aperture at the centre. The outer plates are clamped together at both ends by tubular rivets and are bent over at the edges and welded to one another. Two methods of connecting the central plate to a support are shown comprising a bolt surrounded by a sleeve or sleeves, and a method of mounting an aeroplane engine comprises an annular casing in which the mounting means are contained and which has openings for the securing bolts.
