Abstract
478,909. Mounting engines. GETEFO GES. FUR TECHNISCHEN FORTSCHRITT. Jan. 25, 1937, No. 2214. Convention date, Jan. 25, 1936. [Class- 79 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXIII] A mounting for engines comprises mounting rings or ring sections possessing a common axis coaxial with the axis passing through the centre of gravity of the system and parallel to the crank-shaft of the engine, the planes of the rings being substantially perpendicular to the said axis and arranged on both sides of the centre of gravity, each ring consisting of two sets of coaxial rigid members one connected with the engine and the other with the vehicle body whilst rubber or rubber metal bearings which are subjected to shear by varying torque are located between the two sets. In one form, Figs. 1 and 2, an engine block 1 is connected by a ring 2 and rubber bearings 3 with rings 4 suspended by struts 5, 6 from a body 7. Bearing brackets 8 are so arranged that the bearings are disposed on a cylinder of which the axis passes through the centre of gravity S. In a modification, Fig. 3, the bearings are arranged around the axis of the crank-shaft and the centre of gravity is, by design, or by the addition of weights 10 arranged to lie in this axis. The forward bearing ring 4 includes a bridge piece 11 passing with clearance through an aperture 12 in the cylinder block and the after ring 4<1> is divided. More than four rubber bearings may be spaced around each ring, thus covering a wider area than as shown in Fig. 2.
