Abstract
496,225. Air-locks. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO.. Ltd., KERSHAW, A. G., and KERSHAW, N. G. May 26,1937, No. 14638. [Class 68 (ii)] Air locks more particularly for collieries include vertically sliding doors with counterweights and shutters operated by interlocked hand levers which ensure that only one door can be opened at a time. Stops for vehicles passing through the lock and a counter are also interlocked with the gate operating levers. The doors 1, 2 are balanced by counterweights 3, 4 carried by levers 5, 6 pivoted at 7, 8. Interlocked hand levers 20, 28 operate the doors through rods 19, 30, bell-crank levers, vertical rods 17, 31, and levers 15, 16 pivoted at the points 7, 8 and connected to shutters 11, 12 having a limited vertical sliding movement in guides carried on the doors. A vehicle stop 23 is interlocked with door 1 through the respective operating levers 27, 20. Rod 30 operating door 2 is also connected to vehicle stop 24 and to a further rod 35 associated with a vehicle counter 32 in such a way that the door cannot be lowered while any vehicle is passing through it. The counter operates a cam 33 so as to move a lever 34 into the path of the end of rod 35.
