Abstract
495,512. Vehicle hoods. AMBI-BUDD PRESSWERK GES. Nov. 19, 1937, No. 31837. Convention date, Nov. 21, 1936. [Class 108 (i)] A vehicle having a collapsable hood is adapted to be converted into a closed saloon by wholly or in part substituting for the collapsable hood, or covering the hood by a roof structure of a more solid, preferably rigid material, e.g. a metal shell or artificial leather mounted on a frame, which is detachably secured to the upper edges of the front wall and side walls of the body above the door and /or window openings therein. Fig. 2 shows a collapsable hood 10 stretched over a side rail 7 to fit, with padding 12, in a groove 13, the hood being permanently fastened to the upper edge of the rear wall of the body. Alternatively, the collapsable hood may be completely removable from the body. Fig. 3 shows the collapsable hood replaced by a solid roof structure 14 a channel-section strip 15 on which fits over the rail 7 with one edge engaging the groove 13 which is covered by a weather-protecting panel 17, the structure being secured in position, e.g. by screws 20. A chamber may be provided in the structure to receive the folded-back collapsable hood. When the collapsable hood is covered by the solid structure the panel 17 may be extended to overlie the groove 13 and be secured to the outer face of the rail 7, and the strip 15 may be dispensed with.
