494,362. Weighing - apparatus. DE GRAVE, SHORT, & CO., Ltd., and COUNTER, C. F. June 19, 1937, No. 17122. [Class 143] A dispensing-scale comprises a base 3, an even armed weighbeam 7, scale pans 13 suspended from the scale beam, a loading chain 23 adjustably anchored by one end to one arm of the scale beam, a rotatable drum 24 to which the other end of the chain is anchored, an indicating means (a graduated dial on the spindle of the drum 24) whereby the drum may be rotated to wind or unwind the chain and thereby apply a determined loading to the scale beam, and a centrally disposed arm 14 depending from the scale beam and carrying at its lower end a vane for example aluminium, movable in a magnetic field (produced by a horse-shoe magnet 16) to damp the oscillations of the scale beam. The adjustable connection between the chain and the scale beam comprises a screw 20, traversable nut 21 and a pivoted shackle 22 to which the chain is attached. The initial balancing of the scale beam may be effected by a key applied to a pin accessible after removing a cover plate from the housing. Rotation of the pin adjusts a rack 33 transversely of the depending arm 14 to effect the balancing. The bearings of the scale beam are screened from magnetic influence by means of iron plates. Relieving stops 36 are movable beneath the pans.
