Abstract

493,873. Cutting-off machines; sawing. EASTWOOD, A. B. April 16, 1937, No. 10952. [Classes 60 and 145 (ii)] A cutting-off machine, for removing gates and risers from castings, has the work - table formed in two sections 1, 2, side by side and adjustable independently as to height. The section 2 slides up and down posts 5, 6 on the standard 7, and is moved by a screw 8, engaging a nut 9 on a column 10, and rotated through gearing 17 by a hand wheel 11 ; a clamp 13 locks the section in position. The section 1 is supported in a bracket 16 on the section 2 and is guided by a post 20 connected to the section 1, adjustment being made by means of a screw 14 secured to the section 1 and engaged by a nut carried by the bracket 16 and rotated by a hand wheel 15 ; the screw is locked by a clamp 18 engaging a slot 19 in the screw. The section 2 carries a gate 4, which may serve to support the work, adjustable up and down on guides 22, 23 by bolt and slot connections 21. The cutting-wheel 24, which may be an abrasive wheel, a saw or other cutter, is carried by an arm 25 pivoted on a turret 27 on the standard 7, the arm being counterbalanced by a spring 26 and carrying a motor 28a which drives the wheel 24 by means of a belt 29.
