Abstract
493,814. Ropes &c. KRAFT, J. Feb. 4, 1938, No. 3517. Convention date, Aug. 17, 1937. [Class 109] The reel carriers 1 of a high-speed rope-making machine are mounted in series within the flyer 2 and rotate in stationary carriers 3. Each wire 4 passes through a hollow pivot of the corresponding carrier and normally supports a detector plate 18. Should the supply of wire fail, the plate drops on a contact stud 13, to close an electric circuit and stop the machine. Each stud 13 is connected by a lead 12a and a terminal 14b to a plate 17 which is in circuit with a shaft 14 mounted to rotate within a journal 3a of the carrier 3. Each shaft 14 rotates with the flyer and is connected at 14a by a radial branch lead 12a to a main lead 12 which passes along the flier to the source of supply. The shaft 14 is mounted on ball bearings 16 within bushes 15 of artificial resin &c. which insulate it from the journal 3a. The stop motion may be connected with an acoustic or optical signalling device.
