[Classes 12 (i) and 12 (iii)] In a force-feed lubrication system for internalcombustion engines at least one of the crankshaft bearings receives a part of its oil supply through passages in the shaft, the remainder of said supply being taken directly to a cooling duct which surrounds the bearing and passing inwardly from said duct to the bearing surface. As shown a pump draws from a sump 5 through filter 10 and passages 11 and delivers it through a filter 14 and passages 21, 22, and a branch 24 to a gallery 23. Three branches 24 supply the centre bearing and the end bearings respectively. For the centre bearing, Fig. 3, the oil from the branch 24 passes through a bore 29 to an annular cooling channel 30 round the split bearing liner 16. Some passes through holes 33 to a semicircular groove 32 in the upper part of the liner and then through horizontal passages 20. The remainder passes through a duct 31 back to the sump. Oil from the axial bore 38 in the shaft passes through radial bores 42 to the bearing surfaces. The oil enters the shaft bore at the right-hand bearing, Fig. 1, through connection 26, duct 29, annular grooves 30, 32, and radial bores 36. The oil escapes from the other end of the shaft through radial bores 43. The crank-pin bearings are supplied wholly from the crankshaft bore and escapes through ducts 54 to the sump.
