Abstract

492,676. Pneumatic conveyers; delivering material from hoppers. JORGENSEN, M. VOGEL-. March 24, 1937, No. 8717. [Class 78 (i)] In systems for conveying powdered or granular material in a quasi-liquid state by compressed air of the kind in which the material is admitted to a container and the reafter expelled from it by compressed air the valves regulating the admission of air and material to the container are controlled by the pressure of the material on a plate pivotally mounted in the container. The plate 4, Fig. 1, is attached to a bell-crank lever 5, 7 and is arranged behind an aperture 30 in a tube 28 in order that pressure may be exerted by the material only on its right-hand face. The lever 5, 7 is pivoted at 6, and its weighted horizontal arm is connected by a rod 9 to a slide valve mounted in a casing 10. When the plate 4 is displaced by the material, the valve is in its highest position, and compressed air is cut off from the pipe 12a. This allows the springs 32, 33 to close the valves 3, 19 in the inlet pipe 2 and top of the casing 1, respectively. At the same time compressed air passes through the pipe 12b to the cylinder 18 and opens a valve 16 which allows compressed air to pass to a perforated ring 20 and a distributer 21 for converting the material into a quasi-liquid state and forcing it from the container through a discharge pipe 22. As the level of the material falls, the plate 4 does not return to the position shown until a similar plate 23 near the bottom of the container is uncovered. When this occurs, a slide valve in the casing 27 is moved to admit compressed air to a pipe 35 and this effects the release of a latch holding the rod 9 in the raised position. The return of the plate 4 to the position shown effects the opening of the valves 3, 19 and the closing of the valve 16, with the result that the container again fills with the material. Two containers provided with plates 4 only may be connected so that the movement of the plate in one to effect its discharge may cause the filling of the other. The two containers may each have plates 4, 23, and in this case means are provided for preventing the commencement of the discharge of either container until the other is empty. The valves may be actuated electromagnetically instead of pneumatically.
