Abstract

491,454. Finishing edges of sheet material; grooving-machines. UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CORPORATION. March 2, 1937, No. 6168. Convention date, March 3, 1936. [Classes 31 (i) and 42 (i)] A work-piece of single- or two-ply leather or like material is provided with a rounded edge by forming a groove 46, Fig. 8, therein, applying cement between the faces of the groove and pressing them together. The groove may be formed by a rotary tool 20, Fig. 4, adjustable in an aperture 18 of a head 16 to determine the depth of the groove. Guide flanges 30, 32 are provided on a support 34 or on the head 16. The edge of the work is finished by engaging it in a groove 62 of a rotary tool 60, Fig. 6. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, comprises also the edge formations shown in Figs. 11 (Cancelled) and 13 (Cancelled) and tools for cutting corresponding grooves in the edge of the work. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
