Abstract

491,419. Steam-power plant. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.-GES. Dec. 31, 1937, No. 36235. Convention date, Dec. 31, 1936. [Classes 110 (iii) and 122 (iii)] To cope with shortage of power in high - pressure steam-power plants owing to the failure of a power unit, the engine is divided into a high-pressure engine and two low - pressure engines operating in parallel. The intermediate pressure is so varied that upon the failure of a high-pressure or a low-pressure engine, the shortage of power can be compensated for, partly or wholly, by the low-pressure engine or engines remaining in operation. In the construction shown, with a boiler pressure of 130 atm. and one H.P. and two L.P. engines V, N<1>, N<2>, the intermediate main pressure is 16 atm. If the H.P. engine fails; high-pressure steam is supplied to the main L and its pressure increased to 24 atm. The two L.P. engines then provide the power. A construction is described wherein a L.P. engine fails. The H.P. steam is raised to 140 atm., and the I.P. main to 25 atm. If the resultant output is inadequate, an auxiliary turbine driving a boiler-feed pump and a generator, and having a surplus power equal to the residual power shortage, may be employed. In a third construction, the auxiliary engine is installed as a condensing, lower stage of the engine V, and works in parallel with the engine N<1>. More than one high-pressure and/or more than two low-pressure engines may be employed.
