Abstract

490,937. Trimming soles &c. ARMSTRONG, J. Feb. 23, 1937, No. 5343. [Class 17 (i)] A machine for trimming the margins of soles or of heel top-lifts comprises a knife-blade, means for reciprocating the blade, and manually-operable means for turning the blade about its direction of reciprocation to vary the position of the plane of the blade in accordance with changes in the contour of the work on which the blade is operating. An electric motor 18 drives an eccentric 20 linked to a plunger 28 sliding in a tube 32, and secured by a coupling 56, 58 allowing relative axial movement, to a link 30 having an enlarged end carrying a knife 50. The knife is thickest and broadest at its outer end. It is provided with an adjustable guard 76. The enlarged end of the link is provided with a key 60 sliding in a slot in the tube 32, and a handle 48, to enable the knife blade to be turned in accordance with the changing contour of the work. The end of the tube 32 is fitted with a cap 80 having a slot for the passage of the knife.
