Abstract

502,564. Screw propellers. KORT, L. July 20, 1937, No. 20124. Addition to 443,362. [Class 114] Propeller plant comprising a screw propeller surrounded by a tubular nozzle according to the parent Specification is modified in that the nozzle is pivotally mounted and connected up for movement in the manner of a rudder. A tubular nozzle 3 which in crosssection is of aerofoil form is mounted by means of a pintle 7 and shaft 6 in a foot-step 9 and bearing 8. The section in different planes containing the axis varies, that along the horizontal plane being of larger cross-section and lesser axial length than that in the vertical plane, the leading edge 13, 12 being as shown in dotted line. Within the nozzle may be fitted forward vertical vanes 16 and after vertical and horizontal vanes 14, 15 for assisting in directing the flow to and from propeller 4.
