Abstract
490,265. Circuits for electron multipliers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and ALDOUS, W. H. July 2, 1937, No. 18445. [Class 40 (v)] An electron-multiplier tube has a photoelectric cathode 3 illuminated by a constant source of light and a grid 5 in front of the cathode maintained at a constant positive potential, and is connected in series with a valve 9, e.g. a pentode, having the current substantially independent of anode voltage over a considerable range, the input signals being applied to the valve control grid 14 which is maintained so negative that the anode current is less than the saturated current from the cathode 3. Preferably, the temperature of the cathode 10 of the pentode is so low that the saturated current from it does not greatly exceed the limit imposed by the grid bias.
