Abstract

489,786. Scaffold and like clamps. MILLS SCAFFOLD CO., Ltd., and CASWELL, G. F. C. Feb. 23, 1937, No. 5442. [Class 20 (ii)] Tubular members of temporary frameworks, such as for market booths, are interconnected by means of a bolt or the like passing diametrically through one member and partly embracing another member, and are prevented from moving laterally or longitudinally by means of a projection or projections on one member which co-operate with the other member. The bolt 3, Fig. 2, passes through the tube 2 and its flattened hook-shaped end 7 partly embraces the tube 1. A pin 8 passes diametrically through the tube 2 to which it is welded and projects through a hole 10 in the tube 1 to prevent movement of the tubes when they are clamped in position. The clamping and releasing of the parts are effected by a wing nut 5. In a modification, a nose on the hook 7 projects downwards into a hole in the tube 1. In the construction shown in Fig. 4, a sleeve 16 is connected by a pin 17 to a tube la and projects into the bore of a tube 1b. These tubes, which are thus arranged end to end, are connected together and to a further tube 2 by a bolt 4. The bolt passes diametrically through the tube 2 and a nose 14 on its hooked end enters holes 20 formed in the tube 1b and sleeve 16. The tube and sleeve also have holes 19 for receiving the projecting end of the pin 8. In a further modification, an external semi-cylindrical sleeve is welded to one tube and functions in a similar manner to the sleeve 16.
