[Class 106 (v)] [Also in Group XXVI] A device for delivering measured quantities of liquids, more particularly viscous liquids such as oil, comprises a measuring chamber 1 through the lower end of which passes an operating member 2 carrying a valve 10 and piston 3 so that on upward movement of the member 2 the valve closes the chamber-inlet 6 and the piston thereafter forces the measured quantity of liquid through a passage 4 in the operating member to an outlet nozzle 25 at its lower end. The piston comprises an annular disc 3 of rubber or other material clamped between metal flanges 16 and 17 having outer portions of frusto-conical form. The disc makes line contact with the wall of the chamber 1. Within the upper part 14 of the operating member is a valve stem 9 having at its upper end the valve 10 controlling the inlet 6 and at its lower end a valve 12 urged by a spring 15 into engagement with a seating 13 to prevent passage of liquid through the operating member. The upper end of the chamber is formed as a socket to receive the neck of an inverted container. In operation as the member 2 is moved upwardly against a spring 19 by means of arms 24, the valve 10 closes the inlet 6 and further movement raises the seating 13 away from the valve 12 and the piston forces liquid through the member 2 to the outlet 25. The amount of liquid delivered may be varied by controlling the stroke of the operating member. Dripping is prevented by a flared outlet end 29 and by an annular channel 28 into which any liquid remaining in the nozzle is withdrawn by suction produced by the return movement of the piston.
