489,771. Hydraulic apparatus. MILES, F. G. Feb. 3, 1937, No. 3228. [Class 69 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXX and XXXIII] A fluid-pressure jack, particularly for operating the wing flaps of an aircraft selectively to either of two operative positions corresponding to " takeoff " and " landing," comprises cylinders 1, 2 provided with piston rods 8, 9, connected between two relatively movable points A, B, such as a part of the wing structure and part of a wing flap. When fluid is admitted to the cylinder 1 at 4, the rod 8 is forced outwardly and the distance between A and B extended by the length of stroke of this rod, corresponding to " take-off." When fluid is admitted to both cylinders at 4, 5 respectively, the jack is fully extended to correspond to " landing." The cylinders, which are preferably doubleacting, may be arranged sideby-side.
