Abstract
488,721. Roving frames. DALGITY, G., and COONEY, O. Jan. 16, 1937, No. 1388. [Classes 120 (ii) and 120 (iii)] In a roving frame the sliver is twisted by rollers 12 mounted in a driven carrier 3 and passes through a stationary guide-pivot 5 which projects within the carrier and forms a bearing therefor, the rollers 12 being rotated by a gearing 15, 16. The carrier is shaped at 17, 18, 19 to constitute a guide passage for the roving, the projections 18, 19 serving also at balance weights, and the roving passes through the hollow pivot 8, which may be rifled. The twisted sliver is preferably delivered into cans 31, tramping-means comprising a disc 50 with a rubber or like ring 52, being reciprocated by a cam 59, or the can 31 may be reciprocated. Carriers 32, to which the cans are coupled by a pin-and-slot connection, are mounted on arms 36, which are pivoted about the can-driving shaft 42 and are lowered for doffing by moving supporting- arms 46. When the can is full, the operating- arm 57 of the tramping-means engages a lever 74 and releases a trigger from the starting lever 65, which is thereupon moved by a spring 68 to the " off " position, shown in full lines, and, at the same time, moves the arm 57 by means of a bowl 64, so that the tramping- means is lifted clear of the can as shown in full lines.
