Abstract
488,345. Steam superheaters. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd., and TOLLOW, F. S. Nov. 6, 1937, No. 30497. [Class 123 (iii)] The space above the water-tube bank 1 of a steam &c. generator is divided into two up-flow passages 15, 16 and an intermediate down-flow passage 17 in series therewith, one section 18 of a superheater being disposed in passage 15 and a second, 19, in passage 16 which may be byepassed to an adjustable extent by means of a damper 38. The whole gas stream is then conducted through a passage 20 containing an economizer and through an air heater 133. The passages 15, 16, 17 are formed by water-tube rows 24, 25, provided with blocks or refractory material suitably to confine the gas flow. The superheater sections are drainable through headers 31, 32, the tubes of one section being connected in series with those of the other through tubes 33. Header 32 is connected with the steam drum 8 as at a number of points to ensure equal distribution of steam during its passage through the superheater in counterflow to the gases.
