Abstract
486,958. Washing granular materials. BLANTYRE ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and KERR, W. Nov. 18, 1936, No. 31550. [Class 82 (ii)] A Baum-type washer-box for coal and the like has means for controlling the flow of shale through it comprising a section 3a of perforated plating substantially continuous with the perforated plating 3 of the box proper and surmounting a supplementary box 6, in which pulsations are produced similar to, but independent of, those in the box proper, the means inducing the pulsations in the box 6 being controlled by means operating according to the rise and fall of the shale level, so as to increase or diminish the rate of flow of shale over the section 3a as the level of shale on the plate 3 rises or falls. In the washer shown, a float 5 riding on the shale bed on the plate 3 controls by its rise and fall a regulating valve 7 in the pipe by which a pulsating pressure-air supply is led to the supplementary box 6, the amplitude of the pulsations in the box 6 being thereby increased or diminished as the shale level rises or falls respectively.
