Abstract
486,939. Screw propellers; bearings. BLOCH, M. Sept. 7, 1936, No. 24425. Void. Convention date, Sept. 6, 1935. [Class 114] [Also in Group XXXIV] In screw propellers where the blades are mounted with thrust races for taking centrifugal forces, the root of the blade or a part associated therewith is given a spherical surface which contacts with a corresponding surface on the thrust race. The screw propeller blade 1 has an internal screw sleeve 6 with projecting foot 9, the upper surface of which is formed spherically. There is a corresponding surface on the bottom of the part 12 of the thrust bearing 10, 11, 12. In the assembly, bushes 3 and 7 are interposed between sleeve 6 and the spigot 2 and the blade root 1 respectively. In an alternative form, two rows of balls 10 are used and the upper race 11 is divided correspondingly. With this construction, the blade root carries separately a ring having a spherical surface for coacting with that on the race 12.
