Abstract
486,024. Gravity switches. GARDNER, W. M. Nov. 27, 1936, No. 32578. [Class 38 (v)] An automatic safety switch for cutting out the battery of a motor vehicle or aircraft on excessive tilting comprises an insulating casing having a base 2 formed with a central prominence 4 having a recess in which are mounted a pair of spring contacts 6 connected respectively to the battery 10 and frame 9. The contacts 6 are normally bridged by a copper stud 15 on a metal mass 11 arranged to fit over the prominence 4. When the vehicle tilts excessively, the mass 11 moves to one side and breaks the circuit. The switch can be operated by hand by means of a plunger 23 passing through the casing and operated through linkage 22, 29.
