Abstract

485,889. Ventilators. JOHNSTON,. N. F. Feb. 4, 1937, No. 3301. [Class 137] In a ventilating device comprising coaxial or spiral air spreading rings or louvres between which the air is ejected, the cross section of the rings at any point is of stream line form ; the inner peripheries being rounded, and the top and bottom faces tapered towards one another. In Fig. 1, to a foundation ring B of an air duct A is secured by spiders C coaxial. spaced rings D of diameters decreasing downwardly, a streamlined projection E being provided at the apex formed by the spiders. In Fig. 3, each ring D is secured to a sleeve S, these sleeves sliding one within the other, and being held in position by a spring H to regulate the amount of air passing. In this form the sections of the rings are of concavo-convex formation. In other modiftcations the rings or louvres are arranged spirally, and the spirals may be adjusted towards one another to limit the amount of air passing, as described in Specification 396,468. Fig. 9 shows a louvre with the convex surface formed of a rolled metal strip and the concave side filled with material M which hardens and adheres to the inner surface.
