485,241. Plate heat - exchangers. CHERRY-BURRELL CORPORATION. May 24, 1937, No. 14377. Convention date, Jan. 27. [Class 64 (iii)] A heat-exchanger for fluids is built up of plates having a number of bosses 12 on one or both sides, and sealing means, such as a gasket 15, are provided to form separate sealed fluid flow spaces on opposite sides of the plate, the sealing means wholly encompassing the area of the plates formed with bosses. The rows of bosses may be staggered. All the plates may be alike, but the bosses may be non-symmetrically arranged so that, by reversing adjacent plates, registration of bosses in neighbouring plates is avoided. The thickness of the flow spaces, and the diameter and centre to centre spacing of the bosses may have approximately the relation of 1 to 3 to 4. Additional bosses 25 may be provided to assist in keeping the plates apart. Passages 22 and 23 act as flow and return for one set of spaces between the plates and the fluid can flow thereto through gaps 19 and 19a, in inner portions of the gasket. The alternating set of spaces are provided with a similar pair of inlet and outlet passages.
