Abstract

483,530. Vehicle spring - suspensions; rubber springs. GETEFO GES. FUR TECHNISCHEN FORTSCHRITT. April 23, 1937, No. 11681. Convention date, April 27, 1936. Addition to 458,241. [Classes 108 (ii) and 108 (iii)] In the wheel suspension described in the parent Specification, the rubber springs are modified so as to be divided into separate blocks secured at both ends, the blocks, under load, being subjected to a combined stress between a pure shear and a progressive compression. As shown in Fig. 1, half axles 1 are mounted on fixed triangular pivots 2 and separate blocks 6 of rubber are secured to plates 7, 8 which are in turn secured respectively to the half axles 1 and to the pivot 2. As load occurs, the axle is rocked upwardly so that the blocks 6 are at first subject to shear only but when deformation increases one part is progressively subjected to compression while the opposite part is progressively subjected to tension. The slight. resiliency of the rubber relatively to compression produces a progressively rising spring characteristic curve. Figs. 3 and 4 show half axles 12, 14 provided with fork-like ends 11 and 13, 15 secured to separate blocks of rubber, the separate blocks lying side-by-side. Specification 483,373 is referred to.
