Abstract
480,864. R÷ntgen - ray apparatus. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and SCAIFE, F. N. Sept. 1, 1936, No. 23930. [Class 98 (i)] X - ray apparatus comprises a transformer immersed in an insulating compound within a casing closed at its upper end with a cover removable for the insertion of the transformer, and an X - ray tube rotatably supported on the underside of the transformer casing ; both tube and casing are enclosed in an outer casing having an aperture for the convergence of the X-rays. The transformer casing 1 having a cover 2 bearing terminals connected to the transformer, carries insulated bushes 3, 4 through which the terminals 5, 6, 7 of the secondary winding of the transformer pass. The X-ray tube 10, Fig. 3, is carried in an ebonite casing 14 filled with oil and having end-portions 21, 31, which carry slip-rings 22, 23 and 33 respectively, connected to the filament and to the anode of the tube. A part 15 of the casing is reduced to permit passage of the X-rays and an ebonite focusing cap 67 is provided. The casing 14 is rotatably mounted in metal bearings carried respectively by the terminals 5, 7 and engaging the sliprings 23, 33, the other terminal 7 being connected to the ring 22 by two vertical metal strips 45 engaging the ring. The outer metal casing is in three parts, the lower part 48 being held by screws 54 to the middle part 46 so as to be removable to permit inspection of the tube, and the upper part 47 carrying a tubular member 56 supported in bearings to permit rotation of the apparatus, the leads for the transformer being connected to slip-rings 60. The metal ends 61, 62 of the container 14 carry scales to indicate the amount of rotation of the container.
