Abstract
397,483. R÷ntgen-ray tube mountings. PIEPER, O. H., c/o Ritter Dental Manufacturing Co., Rochester, New York, U.S.A. Dec. 12, 1931, No. 34528. Convention date, Dec. 15, 1930. [Class 39 (i).] An X-ray tube mounting comprises a housing divided into two compartments one containing the transformer and the other the X-ray tube rotatably mounted in a fixed saddle and carrving a focusing device extending from a recess in the container for arcuate movement. The compartment 5, Figs. 2 and 4, contains the oil immersed transformer 10. An insulating cover 15 and a gasket 17 are secured by one set of bolts 16. The tube compartment comprises a mounting 34a, Fig. 5, bolted by bolts 35 to the compartment 5, having a centre bearing saddle 38 for the tube and flanged cylindrical sides 40. Metal mounting rings 41 fit over the flanges 40 and in turn engage the inner ends of the metal housings 34b, which are bolted by bolts 36 to the compartment 5. Insulating sleeves 67 are also mounted -within the housings 34b. The central part of the tube 42 is a chrome iron ring 43 welded to the glass tubes 44 and surrounded by a layer 45 of lead and by an outer brass supporting ring 46 which rests in the saddle 38, and is held by side plates 48. The ring 46 carries the radially extending part 50 of the tube having a focusing tube attachment 51. The connections to the. tube are through insulators 19 bolted by nuts 22, with gaskets 21. The anode connection comprises a metal tube 23 flanged at 25 and secured by a nut 28. The tube is closed by a Bakelite plug 24 and has an extension 55 which contacts with a spherical cap 54 of the tube 42. The cathode connection is by a similar tube 23<1> and an inner conductor 31 in the plug 24<1>. The leads 61, 63 are connected through a resistance to the outer and inner terminals of a screw plug 56 carrying the cathode filament. The lead 61 is rigid and supports the hub 60 on which the end spherical cup 64 of the tube rotates. The resistance is mounted on the insulating block 59. Reference is made to Specification 361,855 in connection with the spherical ends 54, 64 of the tube.
