Abstract

480,032. Knitted fabrics. WILDT & CO., Ltd., and HOLMES, H. H. Nov. 3, 1936, No. 29900. [Class 74 (ii)] Tubular or other knitted fabrics and articles split across the wales to form partly separated sections, e.g. a sock provided with a garter section, are so knitted that on subsequent partial separation one or both of the edges so formed are selvedges. This may be done by knitting a welt part way round and unravelling, or by knitting a welt right across or all round and unravelling or severing part of it. One or both sections may be knitted wholly or in part of elastic thread. Fig. 3 shows a piece of rib fabric with two welts 7, 8 joined by a course of loops 11 ; alternate loops 12 are cast off in the part of this course where the split is to be made. To form the split, the remaining loops 13 are cut along the line c. Instead of providing a partial course, including cast-off loops such as 12, a draw thread of like extent may be inserted to hold the two fabric sections together temporarily.
